Westphalia (the Peace of Westphalia)- The 1648 peace treaties of Osnabruck and Munster that ended the Thirty Years War and the Eighty Years war between Spain and Republic of the Seven United Netherlands. These treaties arose from the first modern diplomatic congress and established the concept of state sovereignty.
